Attention: AKC Spaniel Field Trial Clubs
The AKC recognizes the time and effort involved in organizing field trials and values every participant in the sport. To ensure fairness and consistency, we want to clarify that clubs must adhere to the Premiums published closing dates for entries.
Per Chapter 8, Section 9 of the Field Trial Rules for Spaniels:
“Any field trial-giving club that accepts an entry fee different from that published in its premium list or entry form, or in any way discriminates between entrants, shall be disciplined.”
The rule states, “or in any way discriminates between entrants,” which means all participants must have an equal opportunity to enter. Setting a closing date and then accepting late entries contradicts this principle and is considered discriminatory. Accepting entries after the closing date is a serious rule violation, as it can be seen as preferential treatment.
No AKC-licensed event shall allow entries after the official closing date.
