A gunner is one of the most important roles for a safe, successful field trial. After the dog flushes the bird, the gunner acts as an extension of the handler by shooting the bird so the handler can focus solely on handling the dog.
The gunner's number-one priority is always safety. Gunners are required to attend seminars and keep their skills fine-tuned to shoot quickly, effectively, and safely. Through this training, gunners develop a keen situational awareness to keep the safety of the spectators and participants - human and canine - at the forefront of their attention.
