Art Rodger

Art Rodger passed away today 2/25/2009 after a long illness.  Art was the founder of Spaniels In The Field Magazine.

"The Spaniel world has lost a very fine gentleman, Art was someone who gave advice and guidance along the way very few people have this gift in life.  Rest in peace my friend."

- Jim O'Shea

Being new to the Springer Game in the USA having grown up in Scotland, it was Art who, although he did not know me, helped me get involved in the US, he was always approachable and the magazine was always great in his time in charge.

A great loss, he was a Gentleman.

Best Regards,

I am so sorry to hear of Art Rodgers passing. My condolences to his family. I feel fortunate to have met and known Art. When he began Spaniels in the Field, Art definitely had his pulse on the field trial community. He was instrumental in encouraging advertising as there wasn't much advertising for the field community prior to Spaniels in the Field. I believe this opened the door to the field community doing OFA, CERF and other health checks as the public was being educated at the same time to ask questions. He was devoted to his sport and we are better for having known him.

Rest in peace.

I am so sorry to just learn of Art’s passing. Hal and I were just talking about him the other day. I have many funny memories of Art. He was quite a character – spent many times talking, teasing, and enjoying dinners while at trials. Never a lack of conversation when Art was around. I am sorry I didn’t get to see him before his passing. Thanks so much for putting up this page to let us remember Art. What a guy. I will miss his funny sense of humor.

Nancy and Hal
