Jules “Fred” Neville 1939-2004

Jules “Fred” Neville, 65, of Green Bay died Friday, June 25, 2004, at his son’s home in Albion Township near Black River Falls, Wisconsin, with his wife, Susie at his side, after a 14 month battle with cancer. He was born March 21, 1939 in Winona, MN, the son of Julian and Olga (King) Neville. Following graduation in 1957 from East High School in Green Bay, WI, he served one term in the U.S. Marine Corps. Fred married Susan M. Turek in Green Bay on January 6, 1961. He formed Neville’s Industrial Applicators in Green Bay, where it became the “gold standard” of that field.

Fred is survived by his wife, Susan; son, Christopher (Kathy) Neville of Black River Falls and their children, Brooke and Britt; three daughters, Amy (Gregg) Leonardson of Eau Claire and their children, Catherine and Caroline, Cara (Tom) Schomisch of Eau Claire and their children, Jack and Ava, and Melissa (Aric) Bandi of Appleton and their children, Bryan and Ethan; two brothers, Earl (Helen) Neville of Green Bay and Chuck Neville of Algoma WI; his sister, Mary (Werner) Hildebrand of Boulder Junction, WI; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Fred and Sue made many friends in England, Canada and throughout the United States, traveling in the English Springer Spaniel and English Cocker field trial circuit. They will remember him for his experience, wisdom and story telling.

Fred was the kind of person that filled the room with his presence and good will. Wherever he was, he made everyone he contacted feel important. When on vacation, he would befriend the clerks at the local bakery and be there bright and early for the pick of the day’s bakery, they had saved for him. He was a very generous person, especially to his deeply loved children and admiring grandchildren of whom he was so very proud. Fred lived life to its fullest, and made it an adventure. He was a great story teller and his stories began as a boy living a “Tom Sawyer” existence along the Mississippi River in Winona, MN, where by his own account he was a “river rat”, and mischief and adventure ruled the day.

Fred, his son Chris, and son-in-law Tom worked hard together all year, but every November went duck hunting for five weeks in Trempealeau, WI. They had great times together. Fred also loved to fish, but not unless a group could go along. He always provided food, supplies and equipment in abundance to assure everyone had fun. His real joy was putting the rest of the party on the fish, never caring whether he even wet a line. He was a wealth of information about the river’s contours and where the fish might be caught.

A voracious reader of newspapers, books and sporting magazines, Fred had an encyclopedic mind. He would start a conversation with anyone he met; a priest, Green Bay Packer, physician, politician or convenience store clerk. No one was denied his smile and upbeat attitude. Anyone who knew Fred was richer for it and will surely miss him. God Speed Fred...
