25 October 2023 – Outbreak update

6:51 pm Update

The dog with the illness that was self-reported to the Nebraska clubs has been diagnosed as a non-contagious condition of a tick-borne illness noted as anaplasmosis. The ESSFTA has received a letter from the Veterinarian treating the dog. It defines the condition and includes the care plan. We appreciate the transparency of the dog Owner to alert the Nebraska Field Trial attendees when the situation was unknown.

Please be advised!!

The English Springer Spaniel field trial community has had outbreaks in all of the 5 regions. A recent dog illness has been reported to the Club Presidents of the English Springer Spaniel Club of Eastern Nebraska (ESSCEN) and Platte River English Springer Spaniel Club (PRESSC). As the previous situations, the illness was detected upon returning home. Currently, the illness is under veterinary care and we are waiting for the information as to the cause.

The ESSFTA Board of Governor is working with the AKC and the ESSFTA Health Committee to make recommendations for discussion and action at the 2024 ESSFTA annual meeting.

If you have questions, please let your ESSFTA Board of Governor know!!!
